The Five Levels of Healing
YOU, here on the physical plane, need clean water, wholesome nutritious food, human touch, exercise, rest, warmth and shelter. A prolonged lack of any of these basic needs will cause imbalances that lead to disease. This is merely the FIRST level of healing.
In the profound work of Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, the physical realm is merely the first level within a five-level approach that addresses total wellness and a rich holistic healing perspective.
On the emotional/energetic plane, (2nd level) we need healthy relationships with humans and animals. We also need to engage in meaningful work. The five basic emotions according to Chinese Medicine, are joy, sadness, worry, fear and anger. They arise naturally from within, and in a healthy person, are acknowledged and pass through our systems quickly. When they are blocked, they can accumulate causing disease and disturbance. In today’s culture the ‘stress response’ is a real and all-too-common chronic reaction to daily living.
On the mental plane, (3rd level), we operate according to beliefs, some taken in purposefully, and many unconsciously acquired. The mental level is personal and collective. It reaches us initially through our family life. As children we believe what we are told and what we hear, and make "decisions" based on this early input. Later in life, books, media, and conversation will reinforce or challenge those beliefs. Our ’belief systems’ can engender strong emotions that will often accumulate and contribute to dis-ease.
The fourth level has several names. It is called the Causal Level in the Eastern/Yogic tradition, the Intuitive Level, and also the Family System Level. It is "causal" in that we inherit traits and physicality and stories and habits of health and disease which we carry forward into our own lives. From ’top down’, this influence is fast, magnetic and largely unconscious. Our DNA functions at this level, for better or worse!
The fifth level concerns our individual and collective spirituality. At this level we see and try to accept and understand that, individually and collectively, we are very small in the infinite expanse of time and space, and hold a certain humility and awe in relation to that truth.
