Recession-Proof Jobs

Though auto workers, stock brokers and mega-banks may be in trouble, there are plenty of in-demand professions, even in this slow economy. The following list was extracted from a recent report at Forbes.com:

Sales Representative: In tough economic times, a talented sales force is needed to get new customers and grow business opportunities.

Software Design and Development: Software designers write the programs to meet business needs. Software engineers will be among the fastest-growing careers through 2016.

Educators: In the midst of a crisis in education, the push is on to compensate teachers based on performance rather than tenure.

Health Care & Nursing: Aging baby boomers create an increased demand for nurses and specialized care & treatment services.

Accounting & Staff: Accountants are in high demand. This will continue no matter what the economy looks like. In a downturn many companies turn to accountants to learn to operate more efficiently.

Networking and Systems Administration: They design and maintain business systems, including computer files, e-learning, e-mail, websites, teleconferencing and social networks. A network operator can move up and work with company leaders to potentially increase business.

Administrative Assistant: Administrative Assistants are always in demand because it’s hard to find people with multiple skills who can afford to live on less than $50,000-$60,000. Many of these jobs can go long periods without being filled.

Business Analysis, Software Implementation & Research: These professionals figure out which software best suits their company’s needs. They install the software and teach the staff how to use it. While the software designer writes the programs, the researchers work with the business side to put the software to work.
